Dr Dental – Babies can Have Tooth Decay
In order to avoid tooth decay in babies at home dental care habits are important to practice. Many parents put their babies to sleep with a baby bottle as it can help to make thier child fall to sleep easier or faster.
However, by putting a baby to sleep with a bottle, you can harm a baby’s teeth. Sugars from juice, formula, or milk that stay on a baby’s teeth for hours can eat away at the tooth enamel. This can lead to what called “bottle mouth” or “baby bottle tooth decay.” When this happens, the front teeth can get discolored, pocked, and pitted. Cavities might form and, in severe cases, the decayed teeth might need to be pulled.
If you feel that your baby needs to have a baby bottle to fall to sleep then make sure to only have water in it.
